spacer The CHIVO Ship's Log is an "unofficial history" of the Goat Boat and is meant to be a reasonably accurate and factual record of actual events in CHIVO's history, not sea stories.   The log is largely based upon the recollections and submissions of CHIVO crewmembers.   The log has only just started and we need your inputs.

spacerWe are talking about memories going back as far as 1945, and individual remembrances may be different or incomplete.   Therefore submissions and log entries will be subject to the friendly challenges of other CHIVO crewmembers.   Each log entry will include the originator's name, years on board, and e-mail address.   "Competing entries" will be allowed to co-exist in the log until resolved.   We may have several versions of the same event, which hopefully will inspire old shipmates to communicate with each other and resolve their different recollections.

spacerLeroy Collins (58-60) is spearheading this effort and has offered to be the "sea trial" editor of the ship's log.   As editor he will also be the final arbiter on all competing entries.   All submissions should be sent by e-mail or postal mail to him at:

Record your recollection in the following format:
DATE(mmm/yy)----EVENTS/REMARKS--------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------   (info source)  (name, yrs.abd, e-mail )

Sample:

JUN-AUG58   Underway from NAVSTA Key West with USS SEACAT and USS________to conduct ASW barrier exercise in the Greenland/Iceland/Faroes gap in the North Atlantic.   The original plan was to set the barrier with approx 10 U.S. Submarines, then near end of July, proceed to Antwerp, Belgium for the 1958 World's Fair.   But the Lebanon Crisis intervened a week beforehand, a "real-world" barrier was set, and CHIVO was diverted to Faslane, Scotland to refuel and reprovision overnight.   Barrier station was resumed for a few weeks; the Lebanon Crisis subsided, and the submarines secured (and CHIVO returned to Key West for UPK).
